Constant Recourse layers electronic elements and inventively rhythmic drumbeats onto a solid acoustic-pop-rock backdrop, complimented by thoughtful, punchy lyrics and tight harmonies. Passionately seeking the Holy Spirit, this six-piece Philadelphia-based group develops music from earnest, vulnerable faith reflections. Constant Recourse includes Ben Mell, guitar and lead vocals; Matt Gore, keyboard; Luke Patterson, drums; Zack Groff, electric guitar; and Jessica Mell, vocals.
Constant Recourse formed in 2006 out of a desire to encourage and challenge people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Early on, they sought an audience outside the Church in order to share the compassion, truth and hope that is known only in Jesus, with those who do not know Him. They performed at various universities and bars, but also at churches and Christian retreats. As they played, it became clear: Those outside the Church need Jesus, but the People of God, those who profess to know Him, need to see Him too
God has been forming a new mission for this band: Encourage the people of God toward Jesus- that He would be their Constant Recourse- and point them to one another, that they would be accountable in Christ-centered community.
In May 2006, the band was selected in the nationwide Band With A Mission Competition and showcased at Nashville’s Rocketown. The band then released its first album, Something Brighter, in July 2006 and played shows locally through the fall to promote it. The following year, Constant Recourse participated in the 2007 Emergenza International Music Competition and finished in 5th place among the 180 participating bands in the Philadelphia area. Immediately following Emergenza, the band played venues in the summer 2007 Extreme Tour, which took them as far West as New Mexico.
